Overview

My working life started as a storeman at an Air Compressor company selling and repairing all types of pneumatic equipment, i then gained a Motor Mechanics apprenticeship at a Ford Dealership in Sydney after completing my trade in the credit grade and a workshop supervisor,  i left and worked for Qantas as leading hand in the engineering department overhauling all types of pumps and valves for the Qantas Fleet.  

I then moved to Queensland and obtained a job overhauling hydraulic and mechanical helicopter components for the Bell Helicopter agents in Australia; Helitech i had this role for almost 6 years. after leaving Helitech i built and dyno tuned race car engines and worked for a hire company as the branch mechanic and hire consultant.  

My background up to this date is mostly in the mechanical and component overhaul area however i worked as a sales rep on the road for the hire company and sales is where i saw a future.

I then made a big career change opening my own Real Estate office in 1999 "Harcourts Beenleigh"  which i operated for 7 years winning many awards within the Harcourts group over that time, Harcourts Beenleigh was a Platinum Office we were always in the to 10 in Qld i sold the business in 2006.  I now work as a commission only Real Estate agent in my local area. 

I pride myself on my work ethic and have always achieved in any role i have taken on, my range of experiences and common sense will see me through in the most challenging position.   

Achievements

Promoted to workshop supervisor service advisor and "Road Tester" in the third year of my apprenticeship.

When at Qantas i was promoted to Leading Hand in the Pumps and Valves section after 12 mths and was sent to England to learn more about some of the components we repaired.

With no experience started my own Real Estate Agency studied for my Real Estate Agents Full Licence and grew that office to become one of the top offices for turnover in the Harcourts Group.

Completed a 11 lot property development subdivision in the local area.

Detailed Description:I decided a sales career was where i wanted to go so after some research i decided to start my own business, i purchased a small Agency in Beenleigh and took on the Harcourts Franchise at the same time.

I was promoted to sales rep on the road, making sales calls to account customers and gaining new business from making cold sales calls and other prospecting activities. i also looked after their accounts to ensure end of month payments were made and sorting out any disputed invioces.
My time at this company was gave me a great understanding of the hire industry and a good understanding of business and customer service.

Detailed Description:This was a similar role to the job at Qantas however working with Helicopters, during my time here i started in the hydraulics section working on the flight control actuators for the larger 212 models and military "Hueys" as well as the smaller 206 models, our customers were operators from all parts of Australasia with many in NZ and PNG, Seaworld was one of our customers at the time.
I then moved sections to the mechanical workshop this is where we repaired and overhauled the Gearboxes, Rotor Heads Tail Rotor gearboxes and many other components for most of the Bell Helicopter range.
Part of the process during any overhaul was crack testing useing dye penetrant or magnetic particle testing, i was qualified at the time to conduct these tests and certify the components serviceable, this was an extra level of responsibility and required continuous training with a senior N.D.T. specialist.
Any role in the Aviation engineering sector is an enjoyable job at a high technical level with significant responsibility and high accountability, there is almost no room for error and any mistakes can have fatal consequences.

Detailed Description:This job required me to repair and overhaul all types of aircraft components from the Qantas fleet, my area was pumps and valves this section had approx 12 other engineers/fitters working there. The components were mostly pneumatic items which controlled the various systems on the aircraft.
We strictly followed overhaul manuals for each item as there were various check points along the way and these had to be signed off before proceeding any further some of these components required operational testing before final completion and tagging.
I was there for two years in total and after my first year i was promoted to leading hand of the department which led me to oversee and sign off the work of all the other fitters in the section and the testing of some components. At that time there had never been anyone in Qantas that had been promoted to leading hand In their first 12 months mostly leading hands had 10 - 15 years experience.
In 1988 I was sent to Plessey Aerospace in the UK for one week to learn more about one of the components we were working on , a guide vane controller which- in direct relation to the throttle controlled the air flow through the Rolls Royce Engines, this was a feather in my cap to be recognised in that way over and above all the other fitters in the section some of which had been there for 15-20 years.

Detailed Description:I finished my four year apprenticeship in the "credit" grade, i spent every Wednesday at Tafe and the other days at the workshop.
The entire first year was spent doing grease and oil changes in the pits, i worked hard every day to finish those jobs so i could start doing other work like servicing brakes and diagnosis, over time my diagnosis and fault finding skills were very good and this lead the service manager to give me a promotion , as a third year apprentice i was the Service advisor, road tester and supervisor for the workshop overseeing all the mechanics this was a big promotion at the time for me as i had not yet finished my apprenticeship.
I also learned from the 'Old Guy" in the workshop to overhaul automatic transmissions and manual gearboxes. He had many years experience in things mechanical.
