Overview

I attended Samford University and graduated with a Bachelor of Biology. I took as many zoology courses as my degree would allow and throughly enjoyed them all. Vertebrate Zoology was definitely my favorite, closely followed by Ecology. I also took Invertebrate Zoology, Environmental Science, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Genetics. Taking these classes allowed me to get a feel for working hard to find information about the animals I was passionate about. All my zoology classes were field classes where I was able to spend time outside of the classroom gathering data and observing animals. While the gathering and analyzing wasn't exactly my favorite part, I loved being in nature in the animals' natural habitat.

I then went to work for a domestic animal clinic, Altadena Valley Animal Clinic. I worked there from the time I finished school in August 2009 till I moved away in May 2010. I worked in the kennel with the animals that were either boarding or in for a check up. This gave me a chance to learn to work personally with animals that have all different backgrounds and different personalities. Through working with them I learned a sense of stability I feel is needed when working with animals. Learning to clean an entire clinic to someone else's expectations also taught me great responsibility. I loved getting to know the animals and being able to provide care for them in the way they most needed it. Working in a clinic allowed me to learn ways to administering medication to animals without injuring them or myself.

From August 2010 till January 2011 I working at a non-profit exotic animal rescue called Noah's Ark. Here I was able to find that my true passion is large exotics. Working with exotics is dangerous but I was taught the right techniques to care for these animals and keep them healthy while keeping them and myself out of danger. I was taught to provide food and care to the animals who had rough backgrounds and sometimes bad attitudes. Wild animals are always going to be wild and we did our best to preserve that lifestyle.
