troubleshooting
. Failover testing for an electronic document management system
installation
. Engineer a scanning package to work on an XP desktop that previously
worked on an NT4 desktop. This involved locating new scanning utility,
installation of the package, trouble shooting user access, testing and
drafting of the task report. I have also undertaken miscellaneous commercial support tasks such as
data migration, office printer setup, remote password resets and trouble
shooting network issues. I was also the Deputy Facility Security Officer
as CES is a member of the Defence Industrial Security Program (DISP) and
Information Systems Security Officer. As DFSO I completed the
reaccreditation of the CES Restricted Workplace which involved revamping
security documentation and liaising with DSA/ISA. While at CES I was also
one of two System Administrators. I was the CES technical point of contact for a secure printing
product. This entailed installing demonstration software as required by
CES. I was also the technical person responsible for assisting in the
development of an in house secure printing solution. This required product
research and testing, hardware requirements specification, assisting with
the development of a test bed, liaison with product suppliers, training on
the selected software design and liaison with CES and external staff.March 2003 - June 2004 Intranet Administrator, Information Systems Division
(ISD), Department of Defence As Intranet Administrator I was responsible for the technical support
of electronically published information on Command, Control and
Intelligence (C2I) systems supported by ISD. I was also responsible for
administering a situational awareness tool that incorporates client and
server side applications. I regularly facilitated customer requests for the publication of
information on supported web systems as well as facilitating the design,
set up and population of new sites as required. I advised on the use and
development of the Intranet and disseminate information across the network.
I resolved requests from customers for the resolution of incidents
provided by the Support Centre including second level telephone and
technical help desk support. In this area I also worked in a level three
"specialist" help desk role. I provided technical support for change management procedures,
developed tools and procedures to improve centralised support and control,
provided direction of site support staff, carried out testing and
development, prepared and wrote documentation and notified management of
issues requiring management escalation. I also developed and maintained build standards for web servers and
assisted in the definition and specification of Intranet based development
requirements. To this end I developed electronic information publishing
policies and standards for use by Intranet Developers and Administrators. I was also responsible for maintaining the integrity of data on
supported intranet systems, managing the import, export, conversion,
dissemination and synchronisation of information to be published on C2I
systems intranet based facilities and introducing into service enhancements
to existing intranet information systems in operational service across the
network. I developed the tools and procedures required to improve centralised
support and control of ISD supported systems and provided management of the
Intranet access for all customers. This included assisting customers with
understanding intranet capabilities and how they relate to other C2I
systems, liaising with other information producer to facilitate and manage
the publication of document based information and advising on ways to use
intranet technology in conjunction with existing C2I systems. In this position I redeveloped the Homepage for the Defence Secret
Network and undertook several server migrations. I also helped develop a series of interactive websites to meet the
situational awareness and briefing requirements of the Chief of the Defence
Force (CDF) and Strategic Command Group (SCG) for operations in Iraq. The
websites were also to be suitable for CDF and the Secretary to brief the
Prime Minister, Minister for Defence and other members of the National
Security Committee of Cabinet (NSC). Using technologies and architectures
not previously used on the expansive Defence Secret Network (DSN), the site
was conceived, developed, fully functional and released for operations in
fewer than ten days. The aims for the websites were that they had to be acceptable to all
users while encompassing an intuitive web interface to promote maximum
utility without users requiring the need for training. To accomplish this a
series of carefully constructed websites with several levels of access were
used to post all source information that is appropriately vetted,
catalogued and archived. For the first time on the DSN, people with
permission are able to publish directly to the Strategic Operations
Division webs in real time from anywhere in the world. The websites have been widely acknowledged (including a nomination for
a Prime Ministers Award for Excellence in Public Sector Management) as
being an excellent situational awareness briefing and strategic
chronological management tool. The websites became a catalyst for the
reorganisation and re-engineering of command, control and reporting
processes within the Australian Defence Force. For the first time, all
levels of command can simultaneously view reports coming up the command
chain; from the tactical level initial contact report, to the after action
report, to the consolidated headquarters report, right through to the
Minister and Government.July 2000 - March 2003 Intranet Data Administrator, Joint Systems Support
Agency (JSSA), Department of Defence As Intranet Data Administrator (IDA) I was responsible for supporting
JSSA supported intranet applications on the Defence Secret and Top Secret
Systems as well as the development and maintenance of the JSSA intranet
site. I regularly used MS FrontPage, MS Site Server, MS Visual InterDev 6,
ASP (with VB Script) and MS IIS. I regularly facilitated customer requests for the publication of
information on supported web systems as well as facilitating the design,
set up and population of new sites as required. To this end I assisted
customers in their understanding of the Intranet capabilities as well as
monitoring and regulating their publishing with the aid of MS Site Server.
I also monitored supported JSSA sites for integrity including linkage,
accessibility, security and currency. I advised on the use and development of the Intranet and disseminated
information across the network. I resolved requests from customers for the
resolution of incidents provided by the JSSA Support Centre including
second level telephone and technical help desk support. In this area I
also worked in a level three "specialist" help desk role. I provided technical support for change management procedures,
developed tools and procedures to improve centralised support and control,
provided direction to site support staff, carried out testing and
development, prepared and wrote documentation and notified management of
issues requiring management escalation.October 1999 - June 2000 Staff Officer Publishing, Directorate of Navy
Professional Requirements (Engineering and
Logistics), Department of Defence I was the Webmaster for the Navy Systems Command Intranet site,
having been the Assistant Webmaster October 1999 - May 2000. I have an
intimate and thorough knowledge of intranet publishing and standards and I
managed the site (approx 90 MB) using FrontPage. It is frame based and I am
thoroughly familiar with all the requirements of maintaining the site such
as updating dynamic information, user-friendly layout, testing it on the
development server prior to publishing and managing contributions to it. Another facet of my work was electronic publishing: I was the lead
coordinator for the Directorates components of the Business Manual. I was
also responsible for various aspects of maintaining several publications
such as the coordination, updating, distribution and issuing of Defence
Technical publications. I worked on developing on line versions of these
sponsored publications. I helped develop MS Access Databases to support the management of
technical publications and to maintain an up to date list of Naval Aviation
Engineers together with their current location and qualifications. This
position required the proficient use of the Microsoft Office Suite of
programs including Access and FrontPage as well as Lotus Notes.
