organisation set up in February 1998 working to promote the IT&T
industry to health providers and other stakeholders with an annual
expense budget of $2.5m. In the first instance, I was required to
establish internal and external procedures, develop reporting regimes,
complete the first audit and finalise CHIC's tax return. As a relatively new start-up, the organisation was going through
cultural and commercial restructuring as a result of its government-
funded history to an incorporated commercial operation. This required
developing the appropriate business model, being the catalyst for
cultural change, identifying and implementing sales and marketing
strategies, finalising HR policies that best serve CHIC's needs and
ensuring CHIC's financial viability. Achievements include:

records management services (software solutions, imaging, database
creation) to the Australian legal industry. Diskcovery has a staff of 85
and turnover of $8.5m.Prior to my joining, the company had been experiencing strong growth and
was heavily reliant upon the principals. External parties provided all
accounting and HR functions including payroll. Internal controls where non-
existent and the organisation culture was one of sole-proprietorship.I reported directly to the General Manager and was responsible for five
administration staff including the financial accountant, and two computer
technicians in Sydney and Melbourne. I was responsible for all corporate
compliance issues.Achievements include:
. Implementation of internal controls and reporting systems including
training of staff.
. Catalyst for the cultural change, increasing the accountability of the
divisional managers and financial awareness of the directors.
. Development of IT infrastructure including communications between Sydney
and Melbourne resulting in considerable savings and efficiencies.

This was turned around to an annual profit of $1,000,000 due to re-
focusing managers and owners.

Management)Recall provides record management services in all major capital cities of
Australia. This is primarily an archiving service including hardcopy and
electronic storage. Recall has 90 staff and a turnover of $14m. When I
joined, the branch had been in decline for two years.I was responsible for internal auditing, weekly forecasting and monthly
including capital expenditure. Also, formulation of business strategies,
developing costing/pricing models and the implementation of systems to
capture key performance issues and drive the necessary cultural change. I
reported to the State Manager and the National Financial Controller. My
department had 10 staff.Achievements:
. Member of the national committee selecting and implementing a new
financial package.
. Training of operational managers so that we could empower them to be
accountable for their profit and loss e.g. cost benefit, payback
analysis.
. Developed and implemented activity database that could provide costing on
services.
