in my role as a classroom teacher:
. In my time at St. Paul's all children in my classroom reached the
Literacy Benchmarks set for Prep and Grade One.
. I have demonstrated a high level of use of ICT to support children's
learning in all areas. (My Classes page; Interactive Whiteboards;
Power Point, including animation; Photo Story; as well as programs
such as Rainforest Maths, Inspiration and Inspiration)
. Integration of Religious Education into Literacy block.
. Creation and use of a range of pre assessment tools prior to planning
Inquiry Units, making learning more authentic to the student's needs
and interests.
. My classroom program is aimed at working towards combining direct
instruction with social constructivism, explicitly providing the
children with the Literacy, Numeracy, ICT, Cooperative Group and
Communication skills needed to support their learning throughout each
Inquiry Unit.
. Use of Assessment Task books as a tool for recording children's
learning achievements and provide communication with parents.
. Use of rubrics for assessment and reporting, including sharing
creation of rubrics with children during Inquiry Units.
. Use of video to record events in children's learning, which is shared
with parents.
. Embedding of the Thinking Curriculum into Inquiry units, for example,
using De Bono's hats. This has proven to be highly beneficial to Oral
Language development.
. Focus in individual learning styles, providing choices which can cater
for a range of styles, needs and abilities.
. Use of Multiple Intelligences and Blooms Taxonomy.
. Implementation of Rime Unit program in English, which has led to
significant gains in reading and writing words, as well as gain in
prose reading.
. Use of circle time to develop Intrapersonal and Interpersonal skills.
. Creativity in planning - using a wide range of methods and formats
(for example 5E's; Kath Mudoch's model; or the 48 grid). Each unit of
work is approached in a unique way, depending on the focus of the
content areas. Professional Development 2006 - 9
