Overview

I completed year 12 at a private co-educational school in Hobart, Tasmania. After completion of my HSC I went on to do a 2 year Travel & Tourism course at The College of Tourism & Hospitality in Hobart. At the end of my 2 years there, in December 1989, I was offered a job as a Rental Sales Agent with Avis Australia. I worked in both the city and the airport locations until January 1992 when I transferred my position to Sydney Airport.  During my time in Sydney I was promoted to Senior Rental Sales Agent, a position that I held until my transfer to Brisbane Airport in October 1993.  During my time with Avis in Brisbane I was promoted several times, firstly to Acting Duty Manager then Location Supervisor in the Fortitude Valley office.  Some of my duties and responsibilities in those roles included: day to day operations including planning & the performance management of staff as well as managing staffing levels, ensuring location meets audit & quality assurance requirements, providing high standard of customer service, thorough knowledge of relevant computer system, daily printing of operational reports and compliance with all company policies and procedures.  Some of the skills I needed to do this job included; Customer service orientation, persuasiveness, teamwork, problem solving, delegation, attention to detail, initiative, work standards, knowledge of OHS and Equal Employment Opportunity policies. 

These skills that I have accumulated in my 18 years with Avis I have taken with me into my most recent role as an Office administrator in my husband's Electrical Contracting business.  A part-time role I have held since 2007. I am resposibily for the daily invoicing, liason with customers and suppliers, maintain stocks and supplies, MS Word/Excel programs, Safe Work Method Statements & OHS policies, wages, managing & maintaining staffing requirements.
